MY ADD and Me

It's been a long time since I put anything on this blog
And there have been tons of reasons. The main, and best reason though is: within the past year, it has become very clear to me that I have ADD/ADHD. It explains so much of why I do some of the things that I do, why I feel the way that I feel, and why I think the way that I think.
I m hoping that by writing this blog, and continuing to write about ADD, not only will I be able to share with you some of the ways that ADDers are affected, but I will also get my own clarity around this as well.
So here s the story about how I made this discovery .
A very good friend and colleague, Barbara Luther, asked me to begin teaching classes at ADDCA the ADD Coach Academy last year. I talked to her about it and looked at the materials for their courses, and agreed. Barbara had mentioned to me a couple of years ago Hey Jerry, you know you re pretty ADD . I had shrugged it off and said really didn t give it a second thought. Even when I got the materials and started preparing to teach for ADDCA, I was certain that none of this applied to me.
I enrolled in ADDCA s advanced program for coaching to continue my coaching education. Within the first two weeks of learning and studying the basic materials about ADD a lightbulb went off in my head. I really did have ADD. So many of the traits of ADD were certainly part of my life story. I learned that there are estimated to be over 8 million adults and 2-3 million children in the USA who have ADD/ADHD. The estimate is that only about 15% of the adults have ever been formally diagnosed and treated. I ve certainly been one of those 6,800,000 adults not formally diagnosed.
Amazingly, I m finding that by applying the coaching principles that I ve learned and taught for years, I m now moving nicely through my ADDness .
As always, I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
Jerry
