Creating Successful Small Businesses Blog80% Done 80% of the TimeThe old saying says that a project will be 80% done 80% of the time. And that's fine - FOR EVERYONE ELSE.
I just don't like it when it happens to me.
I want my own projects done ON TIME and WITHIN BUDGET.
Sound familiar????
Yes indeed....
I've got my own (very difficult) board of directors right here in my head.
The 80% done applies to this website.
It's been at that 80% mark for far too long.
And now it's time that I say "ENOUGH" and just publish it.
AND SO...
This is my very first BLOG entry onto the new site.
There will be MUCH MORE to come - but for today, I'm just happy to have "Christened" the new website with this entry.

|  Always ChangingThings are always changing, Boss.
And one of the changes that is going on is:
NOTES FROM YOUR BUSINESS will no longer be
a daily publication.
It's funny that last week's note talked about
BURNOUT. That isn't the primary reason,
but...
I've been writing these little notes for
two and a half years now.
And I've found that I've said a lot about
business from the business' point of view.
I'm going to be making some changes and doing
some writing and recording from MY POINT OF VIEW.
So....
What does this mean to you???
Well...
I hope that you'll stay tuned to your emails.
I've got some really nice changes occurring, and
I want to share them with you.
My hope is that you'll be getting even better
thoughts and inspiration in my new formats.
I'll be in touch....

| Multiple Solutions!Hey Boss...
Today's thought is:
Handle problems with MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS.
Sometimes there are problems that just
won't easily respond to ONE SOLUTION.
Instead - hit it with MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS.
Here's an example:
Let's say there's a project that just isn't
getting done. A single solution might be
to put time on the calendar to work on it.
BUT....
You've tried that before and it DOESN'T WORK!
Try this instead:
Schedule time on the calendar. Make sure that
it's a time when you could have someone else
come work on it with you. Tell the person
working on it with you that there's a REWARD
that you've already decided on when the project
is complete, and you want them to share that
reward with you.
Now you'll get the project done, have some quality
time with that person, and enjoy a great
dinner out.
Just tell me that the project won't get
done now!!!!

Today we examine generosity.
Actually we examine YOUR GENEROSITY.
I've been wondering how generous
you feel you've been lately.
Just to remind you, there are a few
different ways to be generous:
TIME, TALENT and TREASURE.
Take a look at each one.
Have you been generous with your TIME?
Have you shared your TALENT?
Have you been financially generous?
Oh wait. I can hear your question...
WHO am I supposed to be generous with???
How about all the people, and organizations
that you touch?
Take a quick look at who is IN NEED and
then ask what are they IN NEED OF??

| Chewable ChunksIt's CHEWABLE CHUNK MONDAY, Boss!!!
Yup. Today is the day that we look at something
that has just been over your head for too long.
This is a project that you just haven't
been able to even START!
And you're not too dang happy that it is still
not done.
Got it? Got that project in mind???
Take FIVE MINUTES and figure out the FIRST STEPS
that you'll need to take.
Then set aside TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES to actually
do one of those first steps.
So...
Total investment into this project today is
THIRTY MINUTES.
When you've finished those thirty minutes....
I think you'll be amazed at how much is done.
Now go do it.

find something really great to do that
would kick off the weekend in a
really special way!
Hmmmm....
What could that be????
Well... It could be something out
of the "USUAL FRIDAY NIGHT".
Maybe something that you used to
love to do 10 or 20 years ago.
Baseball game???
Bowling??
A drive up to Lookout Point???
Whatever it is, do something that will
really make a BREAK from the work week
and move ya into that
WEEKEND FEELING!

| TONE IN EMAIL!!!Hello there, Boss...
One of the things that is EASILY MISUNDERSTOOD
is: TONE IN EMAIL.
There are so many ways that we
use our voice when we communicate
verbally.... And our voice can
completely change the meaning of our message.
NOT TRUE IN EMAIL!!!!!
When you write email, the receiver hears the
message in THEIR OWN VOICE, NOT YOURS!!!!!
So....
If you have any hidden nudges or meaning in that
email, it can be easily misread.
And the one thing we're ALWAYS striving for????
OPEN and HONEST COMMUNICATION

Sometimes you're a bit of a
knucklehead.
You may not show this to the world,
but internally you're just grinding
yourself up over this business.
You worry, you pout, you compare yourself
to others. You wonder why you don't
have something.
You want to know the truth about this????
When you're in that "BAD PLACE", you've
only had ONE THING that brought you there:
YOU FORGOT WHO YOU ARE.
That's right. You forgot how wonderful you are.
You forgot how you bring your special way to
your work and to the world. You forgot that
you've always had things work out for the best.
