Well - I found a way to make a lot of progress... By blocking out time AND Setting a 10 minute alarm The task of going through my open TO DO LIST is now complete! YEA! So I really have to store that concept of blocking time and a constant alarm as a way that currently works for me.
So the task list is now down to 105 items. Still FAR TOO MANY. And I know that because I don't even want to look at them. I started reading them this morning and got bored / tired / overwhelmed / who knows.....
Today I'm going to set aside some time to try to vision how I want this to work. I know that there are still a ton of tasks, but I dont' want to see them. The goal is to work from a list of less than 40 tasks. I'm setting that goal because thats what fits on ONE PAGE of Outlook Task List Printout.
OK... Now it's off to block out the time on the calendar and start my REAL WORK for the day. CommentsJohn
3/25/2010 4:53:58 PM | Hi Jerry,
I used to use Outlook tasks too. These days I make a to do list for the following day and do my best to complete everything on it. It gives a little continuity.
Otherwise, I have a prioritized "promise/task" list that's sorted by high/low priority and date. Normally I just try to spend a certain number of hours working on the tasks each day. | Keith
3/28/2010 10:02:40 PM | I can do real well on my task list when the other pieces to my puzzle are in place: eating well, exercising, sleeping, and more and more important meditation.
tasks shmasks, if I am low energy at the start of a day, and or given the bigger pic fail to balance my work over a few week period. yikes. not fun.
i think u are onto something jerry with the vision setting and scheduling. It takes being effective with time and task completion, over that of being efficient, that makes me work smarter.
Visioning and tasking helps me do things that are important over just doing many things. |
